KIT207 Devlog - Week 2, Study 1: Starting Strong

At the start of week two, I got straight into creating my second object. This was requested to be one related to Tasmanian tourism, for which I found some pictures of the House of Anvers which piqued my interest.

My first attempt had to be cut short, as too many subdivisions and extrusions caused the single object to be difficult to manage. My second attempt would split the task among multiple objects for greater ease of manipulation.

Beginning the second attempt, I decided to start with the centre detail of the pillar, as this would be the easiest part of the model to finalise. I slowly built up the rest of the parts of the house, then assembled and scaled them to approximately correct dimensions. In retrospect, I should have made the brick columns adjacent to the doorway additional objects instead of extrusions from the main wall, as unwrapping and texturing these three-sided features later proved difficult.

With minimal time to spare, I hastily unwrapped and scaled the UV map, and produced an adequate texture.
